The ORGANIC FOOD GROUP is financially independent. The Group has no staff or assets.
In the ORGANIC FOOD GROUP you will
find diverse membership; modern ordering methods; two major suppliers [both co-operatives]; shares for personal
use; advice in organic purchase, storage, and preparation; clear goals; prompt money handling; and an opportunity to participate
in a new way - flexible and considerate consumer relations.
No regular meetings? The ORGANIC FOOD
GROUP does not have regular meetings for two reasons - the requirement for attendance at regular meetings excludes those who
would otherwise be active and enthusiastic participants and there is no need for a monolithic 'Chair, Secretary and Treasurer'
structure to make bulk food orders in a modern world.
Without participation there is no
order. Consumers actively resource together to do what we cannot each do on our own. We do not need customer service or chat-me-up.
We keep our eye on this one task and work with each other to get the job done each time in the friendliest manner.
Administration [of a bulk order or
activity] ends with each order? Participants put their own order in the most convenient form for those who take on added jobs
of processing the entire order or arranging distribution after delivery each time. Assistance and samples are provided.
Job postings are above and beyond
putting in an order in a convenient way. You need not be an expert or a genius - assistance is provided if you want to try
a job posting in any particular order - but each job posting requires careful attention to detail because we interface with
existing large and small businesses, so is like running a small business.
The job postings;
1. communicate
not-in-stock [NIS] items and other changes in an order between the supplier and a member;
2. arrange for local
delivery/pickup as needed;
3. final reconciliation of monies within 24 hours of final delivery.
Take on a job posting and educate yourself in a sector where [food] consumer and producer seldom meet
face to face.
Celebrate? Organic food and natural
products now available to the consumer exist only after decades of committment by small producers to provide viable alternatives
to interested consumers. These products provide for consumers very many opportunities to learn new ways of personal consuming
- of using these new and renewed products - and to learn new ways to consume together, to collaborate as a participant.
Learn a new idea useful to any
consumer co-operation? risk:
minimal and spontaneous structure [and assets] ensures maximum participation.
